Imo PDP backs Anyanwu, says he’s national secretary, state leader

The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it recognizes Sen. Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary and the state leader of the party.

This was disclosed on Wednesday afternoon by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Lancelot Obiaku, after the meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC), held at the state secretariat, Okigwe Road, Owerri.

Accompanied by the State Secretary, Jerry Ogoke; the Woman Leader, Edith Nwachi; the Organizing Secretary, Amb. Felix Nwosu, among others, Obiaku maintained that some persons parading as the interim executive council members of the party in the state, based on the pronouncement of a federal legislator, were acting illegally, warning them to desist from such acts, as the present state executive was a product of the 2024 ward, local government, and state congresses.

He said: “We want to emphasize that the leader of the party in the state is Dist. Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and there is no contest around that. He earned it. Today, members, supporters, stakeholders, and other leaders of the party in Imo State know and regard him as their illustrious leader.”

He maintained that the recent Supreme Court pronouncement and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s resolve on the issue confirm their stand.

On the Imo State government, the party knocked the state government, saying it had not delivered in proportion to what it had received financially (₦162bn) in the last 16 months.

The party challenged the government to render accountability.

Meanwhile, the state government has dismissed the allegations of the opposition. In his reaction, the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, clarified that the governor, Hope Uzodimma, had delivered by constructing several road projects, among others.

He maintained that the governor had delivered according to his pre-election promises.
