Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said it recognises Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary and the state leader of the party.
This was disclosed yesterday by the State Publicity Secretary of the party, Lancelot Obiaku, after the meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC) held at the state secretariat, Okigwe Road, Owerri.
Accompanied by the State Secretary, Jerry Ogoke, the women leaders, Edith Nwachi, the Organising Secretary, Amb Felix Nwosu, among others, Obiaku, maintained that some persons parading as the interim executive council members of the party in the state, based on the pronouncement of a federal legislator, was illegal, warning them to desist from such as the current state executive was a product of the 2024 ward, local council and state congresses.
He maintained that the recent Supreme Court’s pronouncement and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) resolve on the issue confirm their stand.
MEANWHILE, Anyanwu has broken his silence, issuing a fiery defence of his position, integrity, and the legitimacy of his office, accusing some party leaders of stoking an internal crisis for selfish ambitions.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Anyanwu described the wave of negative press against the party as “very disheartening,” noting that “man-made crises” and “personal egos” are threatening party unity just months before the end of the current National Working Committee’s tenure.
“There’s no doubt our party is in crisis. I’m a realist. But it’s all about ambition, and it’s very disheartening,” he said.
The party also knocked the state government, saying that it had not delivered to equate what it had received financially (162 billion) in the last 16 months. The party challenged that accountability be rendered.
Meanwhile, the state government has dismissed the opposition’s allegation. In his reaction, the Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, clarified that the governor, Hope Uzodimma, had delivered by constructing several road projects, among others.
