Founder of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Professor Pat Utomi, has stated that his earlier resolve to turn his back on running for political office and accepting government appointments remains unchanged.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Friday, the Professor of Political Economy hinged his submission on the need to keep himself untainted from the corruption that comes with Nigerian politics and government appointments.
He maintained that he is determined to correct the erroneous notion that portrays government critics as individuals who beg for government appointments, adding that paramount before him now would be to lead the next generation on the path of true democracy.
“Let me state clearly: I will not run for public office, I will not accept an appointment, contract by any government in Nigeria. My only concern is the well-being of the next generation.
“I have lived my life decently without government money or stealing anybody’s thing. I want to take that away from people who talk nonsense like, ‘Oh, he is looking for a contract,’ Utomi said.
Commenting on the idea of shadow government, Utomi added that it’s high time for Nigerians to seek a democratic to come together and demand that the government be more accountable.
He then urged Nigerians to read the Afrobarometer, a yearly survey that has collected opinions across African countries since 1999, which gives deep insights into how citizens feel about democracy
