President Bola Tinubu has rejoiced with Rotimi Amaechi, former Minister of Transportation, on his 60th birthday on May 27, saying he wishes him well in his political career.
The President highlighted Amaechi’s invaluable contributions to Rivers as a former speaker and two-term governor, saying he dedicatedly served the state, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President’s spokesman, said in a statement.
During his tenure, the former governor was also Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum.
He served as Minister of Transportation in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet for eight years.
Tinubu prayed for more years and God’s grace for the former minister and wished him well in his political career.
Amaechi is part of a political coalition movement to be led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to oppose Tinubu’s reelection in 2027.
The coalition met on Monday under the aegis of the National Political Consultative Group (North-NPCG), in Abuja.
At the meeting, which was said to be non-partisan, were Atiku, Datti Baba-Ahmed, Peter Obi; former Justice Minister Abubakar Malami, and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir Lawal.
Erstwhile Minister of State for Solid Minerals, Abu Bwari, and former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman (North-West), Salihu Lukman, among other Northern political leaders, were at the meeting that lasted over four hours.
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees Chairman Adolphus Wabara were also at the meeting to show solidarity with the group.
A member of the group, who pleaded anonymity, said they met to further consolidate North’s position ahead of the 2027 general election and to seek the support of like-minded individuals across the South.
