The Enugu State Police Command has struck a significant blow against kidnapping networks in the region, rescuing 28 abducted victims and arresting 10 suspects in a series of coordinated operations over the past week. The breakthrough, announced Tuesday by Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa, unveils intensified efforts to dismantle criminal syndicates terrorizing the state.
In a statement delivered through Command spokesman SP Daniel Ndukwe, CP Giwa revealed that tactical operations—conducted in collaboration with local Neighbourhood Watch groups, Forest Guards, and community members—led to the arrests and rescues. Firearms, ammunition, vehicles, motorcycles, and cash intended for ransom payments were also recovered.
“We remain resolute in our mission to rid Enugu of violent criminals. These successes reflect the power of collaboration between security forces and vigilant citizens,” Giwa stated.
Additional operations on May 13 saw police rescue a victim along the Enugu/Port-Harcourt Expressway and recover a Toyota Camry, a Toyota Corolla, and a Lexus Jeep linked to kidnappers.
Giwa praised the collaboration of security agents and communities but urged residents to remain alert. “We will not relent in pursuing these criminals. Public cooperation is vital to sustaining this momentum,” he said, reiterating the Command’s commitment to safety.
Authorities continue to track fleeing suspects, with investigations ongoing. The operations mark a critical step in curbing kidnapping epidemics plaguing Nigeria’s southeastern regions, offering hope for residents long gripped by insecurity.
