Tunji Alausa, Nigeria’s Minister of Education, has said that the mass failure experienced in the just-concluded 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination proves that the government’s anti-malpractice measures are working.
The Minister who appeared on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Tuesday said the anti-malpractice measures are yielding results, particularly with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board examination processes.
Alausa’s comment follows the outrage from leaders and several Nigerians over the mass failure encountered in the 2025 UTME.
The minister said that this failure shows that there is a decline in malpractice during JAMB examinations.
“That’s a big concern, and it’s a reflection of exams being done the proper way.
“JAMB conducts its exam using a computer-based testing system. They’ve implemented strong security measures, and as a result, fraud or cheating has been completely eliminated. Unfortunately, we cannot say the same for WAEC and NECO,” Alausa said.
He also noted that there are numerous ‘special’ and ‘miracle centres’ across the country which encourage students and candidates to engage in all forms of examination malpractice.
The minister further assured that the technology-driven measures would continue to help nip examination malpractice in the bud.
