Lawmaker hosts PDP defectors, declares gov sole guber candidate
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta Central Senatorial District of Delta State have dispelled the rumour that the party is in disarray since Governor Sheriff Oborevwori joined their fold.
At a meeting yesterday at Senator Ede Omueya Dafinone’s residence, the party leaders called for even greater cohesion and cooperation from the party faithful as the APC grows stronger in Delta State.
The party leaders also passed a vote of confidence on President Bola Tinubu and Oborevwori, as well as their representatives in the National Assembly, for living up to their responsibilities.
The meeting was chaired by Delta Central APC leader, Paulinus Akpeki.In his remarks, Dafinone presented an update on his activities in the Senate and development efforts in Delta Central District, enjoining party members to engage with his office to access available opportunities, particularly federal and state programmes.
He also stressed the importance of involving local party structures in project execution to avoid miscommunication. Dafinone used the opportunity to dismiss rumours of a disagreement between him and former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, declaring: “There is no rift between me and Omo-Agege. We must not allow baseless rumours to distract us from our collective goals.”
MEANWHILE, the lawmaker representing Delta South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, yesterday, hosted former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the locality that defected to APC, during which he affirmed Oborevwori as the sole governorship candidate of APC in Delta State in 2027.
Leaders of the APC from the eleven wards of Isoko South Local Council of Delta State attended the constituency meeting held in Joel-Onowakpo’s country home.
The meeting emphasised the need for unity of purpose to ensure the party’s success in the 2027 elections. In his remarks, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, who chairs the Senate Committee on Local Content, stressed that there is no distinction between old and new members in the party.
He stated unequivocally that “the leader of the APC in Delta State is Oborevwori,” noting that the alignment follows directives from the Presidency and the national leadership of the party.
While explaining that the governor is the APC’s candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election, Joel-Onowakpo emphasised that the Delta governorship seat is not vacant.
