Cheer’s Gabi Butler Faces An Abrupt Elimination On Battle Camp

Competition shows are a very common subgenre of reality television. Whether it’s a singing competition like American Idol or a more intense competition like Survivor, these shows have made a huge impact on audiences. The show Battle Camp has already made quite a splash with viewers by bringing together cast members of other reality shows.

Gabi Butler became well-known in the reality world after her time on Cheer. Her experience on Netflix’s Battle Camp, however, was short-lived and fans were surprised to see her exit the series so soon. Despite leaving early, Gabi handled the situation with grace and humor. However, there was one contestant who seemed to take it particularly hard.

Gabi Was Unexpectedly Sent Home After Competing In Battle Camp

Gabi Butler’s time in Battle Camp has been pretty eventful, but she says there are no regrets. Gabi was one of the frontrunners on the Netflix series, but her time on the show unexpectedly came to an end in Episode 4. The wheel unfortunately landed on her name, even though it only showed up once.

“I think everybody was shocked,” Gabi told People after the sad farewell. “It’s weird though, because I had this very weird intuition that somehow it was going to land on me. I don’t know how, I just had this weird feeling.”

Gabi’s team, the Wolves, lost the daily group challenge before the elimination ceremony. This caused Gabi, Bri Balram and Louis Russell from Too Hot to Handle, as well as Trey Plutnicki from Squid Game: The Challenge, to show up on the wheel. At that moment, Gabi was one of three people chosen to compete in the punishment. She did end up winning the challenge, which kept her name from being added beyond that. Despite the fact that Gabi received no votes from her fellow co-stars, things still didn’t work out for her.

“Looking back on it, I think the way that I went out was on a win off of a punishment,” she said. “I was upset. I am not going to lie. I was a little bit bummed — well, a lot bummed. I was like, ‘Dang, I really thought I could go way longer.’ I expected to go way longer. But obviously the spin was just a really, really unlucky spin.”

American Idol has a new voting system which gives viewers even less time to cast their votes.

Even though she had to leave, Gabi was still happy with the way she handled the situation. “I did everything that I could have done — well, in my control, I did everything I could have done,” she reflected. “I had an amazing team. I met a lot of amazing people within the time that I was there. It was just no better way to go out. I won a punishment. I didn’t have votes. So I’m like, if there was a way, then I’m okay with that.”

Gabi Was Flirting With Tony Castellanos While She Still Had A Boyfriend

Beyond the competition, Gabi was seen flirting heavily with costar Tony Castellanos from The Mole. Gabi was honest on the show and told viewers that while she had a boyfriend at the time, she would still flirt with Tony if it kept him from voting against her. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Gabi even voted for Tony on the night she was sent home.

Tony was very unhappy when the wheel landed on Gabi. So much so that he broke down and began crying. Tony’s sobbing continued even after Gabi was gone, clearly very upset about how everything played out. People asked Gabi if things ever panned out with Tony, and she explained that his words didn’t quite match his actions. She also made it clear that they never explored things further.

“In regards to my situation with Tony, I was in a relationship on the show and I let him know, ‘Hey, I have a boyfriend,’ numerous times. The man didn’t care. He was like, ‘I’ma shoot my shot regardless.’ He’s like, ‘I don’t see a ring on your finger. I’ll marry you tomorrow,’ ” she said. “I’m like, ‘No, this guy is just love bombing me.'”

Gabi’s relationship with her former boyfriend didn’t last, however, and the two would break up. “This is what’s confusing about Tony,” she observed. “He’s like, ‘Oh, the second that you’re single, I’m coming after you, 100%.’ This man unfollows me a few months ago. I’m like, [what] the heck? Then he just followed me back a few days ago, and I’m like, ‘Tony, what’s going on? What is that?’ But yeah, I got really close to Tony on the show.”

“I did tell him one time, I was joking, but I was like, ‘Yeah, if things don’t work out with my boyfriend and I,’ which I didn’t expect that to happen, I was like, ‘Then I’ll call you,'” she continued. She then joked, “You got to keep him on your side. Got to do what you got to do!”

Every single one of Gabi’s Battle Camp episodes is now out and Gabi said she’s excited about her Cheer co-stars seeing her on the show. One person she’s particularly looking forward to sharing it with is former coach Monica Aldama.

“Monica actually reached out to me when she saw this thing coming out. She’s like, ‘Oh my gosh, I know you already killed it. I don’t even have to watch it to know,’ ” Gabi said. “I was like, ‘Girl … you have no idea what’s going to happen. I’m not going to spoil it for you.’ But I am like, ‘I hope I would make you proud.’ I did the best I could.”

The latest season of “Survivor” has started and host Jeff Probst is teasing fans about what they can expect.

Gabi said she was grateful that they helped her compete as well as she did. She also said she would gladly do the show again in a heartbeat.

“Me, personally, I know everybody’s different and wired a little differently, but I have a dog mentality. I will not stop until I get [to] where I’m wanting to go. So let’s say the goal is right here, I’m taking it two steps ahead,” Gabi said. “I’m going to give a big shout-out to Monica and even some of my other coaches that did have the opportunity to mold me into the athlete that I am,” she continued. “I would run it back with the same people that were on it [this season]. I would do it all over again.”

Gabi Revealed The Hardest Part About Competing In Battle Camp

Following her elimination, Gabi spoke to Tudum and revealed whether she was still cheering. “I’m back at home in Florida,” she began. “In the summers, I’m teaching, so I’m not committed to a team right now. I can still technically do everything that I was able to do before, but I’m getting more into the coaching realm of things. I still do consider myself an athlete, but now I’m 27, so I’m branching out into coaching. It is such a passion of mine. I like to help other people to become better at how to cheer.”

Her time on Cheer is what made Gabi a household name for many reality fans. With this in mind, Gabi herself said that she has very positive memories of her experience on the show. “My experience at Navarro was honestly life-changing,” she said. “There are a lot of really special memories that I had on that team. Even without the show, it holds a special place in my heart. Every time I go to Corsicana, Texas, it’s like a second home for me. It just has so many good memories.”

As she prepared to move into Battle Camp, Gabi revealed her main motivation was driven by her competitive nature. “I think what drew me in is just the fact that it was a competition show,” she said. “I’m a very competitive person at heart. I was born to be a competitor. Because I am an athlete, I felt like it was right up my alley, and I was really looking forward to it. I was confident I was going to go a long way.”

However, Gabi wasn’t thrilled about the wheel and how it could affect her chances in the competition. “As soon as I saw it, I was like, ‘Dang.’ It just put a damper on my plans,” she said. “From the moment I came in contact with this thing, I didn’t like it. But I think that everything happens for a reason, so I had to look at it like that.”

Still, Gabi had a lot of confidence in herself. According to the reality star, she said this was one of the skills she used to help her compete. “When it came to the physical challenges, I was very confident in myself,” she said. “I trusted myself. That’s why when the [Full Throttle] punishment came around, I told Avori, ‘Put me in.’ I wanted her to do it. I would’ve taken the guys. I was confident that I was probably one of the strongest there. There were a lot of really, really athletic people, but I was pretty confident when it came down to trusting myself. I know what I can handle.”

While the experience was a short-lived one for Gabi, she was on the show long enough to have developed a disdain for one particular aspect of the competition.

“The hardest thing for me was having to vote for somebody every night,” Gabi said. “I hated that so much.”

It also seems like Gabi is handling her elimination with a sense of humor. When asked the biggest lesson she learned on the show, Gabi said, “The biggest thing I learned was wheels are absolutely trash [laughs]. You just never know what’s going to happen, so don’t always think that you’ve got something in the bag.”
