Nigeria has reaffirmed its dedication to the principles of the African Union’s (AU) Agenda 2063, focusing on advancing democracy, good governance, youth empowerment, and regional security. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, made the reaffirmation on the occasion of Africa Day 2025, which marks the 62nd anniversary of the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), now the African Union.
Tuggar emphasized Nigeria’s commitment to support that promote intra-African trade, technological innovation, and climate resilience, in line with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and other transformative frameworks initiated by the African Union. He noted that the theme for this year’s celebration, “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations,” resonates deeply with Nigeria’s commitment to fostering continental unity, sustainable development, and collective prosperity.
The Minister called for strengthened partnerships among African nations and the global community to amplify Africa’s voice on the international stage. He commended the progress made across the continent in areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure development, while urging renewed collaboration to address persistent challenges such as conflict, poverty, and inequality.
Tuggar celebrated the resilience and creativity of the African people, particularly the vibrant youth, who are driving force behind the continent’s future. He urged Africans to recommit to building a continent that thrives on unity, innovation, and shared prosperity.
