Why I did not support Obi -Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has bared his mind on why he did not support the candidacy of the Labour Party flag bearer in the 2023 presidential elections, Peter Obi.

Wike, in an interview with journalists, said that it is expedient to support a candidate who has the chances of winning the elections, which the former governor of Anambra State, Obi, lacks.

He also told journalists that he does not support social media candidates, hence his decision to weigh his options. The FCT minister said it was no small achievement that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had to go through a turbulent path to emerge as the party’s flag bearer during the election, coupled with other stringent issues like Naira scarcity and fuel crisis.

“He (Peter Obi) had no chance to win elections. People like this kind of social media candidate. I don’t do social media. I sit down as a politician and analyse the candidate who is likely to win.”
“In politics, it’s not always the rider who is the best candidate who is likely to win. No! You see, Nigeria today, so many factors come in, and I have always told people this, whether it is correct or not, it’s a different thing. It was turbulent for Tinubu to have scaled through for his mandate.

“The fuel crisis, the naira issue, it was terrible. No party in government will at that time bring such a policy when you know you are running a presidential election,” he said
