Sean Kingston is currently being held in a Miami Federal Prison after the singer was unable to pay the $100,000 for his release.
According to court documents, the “Beautiful Girls” singer, real name Kisean Anderson, was remanded into U.S. Marshals’ custody on April 10 after a judge ruled he couldn’t cover the bond.
Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, were found guilty last month of fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. The artist is accused of using his celebrity status and social media presence to convince luxury sellers to deliver items before payment and then send them fraudulent wire transfers.
“When the funds never cleared, because the receipts were fake and no money had ever been transferred from legitimate accounts, the victims became suspicious, and despite numerous phone calls or text messages to Anderson and Turner, the victims were either never paid or only paid after filing a lawsuit or after law enforcement became involved,” the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Florida said.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons website, the 35-year-old was being held at the Federal Detention Center in Miami.
He could soon be on his way out as Kingston’s attorney, Zeljka Bozanic, confirmed that his bond was finally posted and he was in the process of being released.
