Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), on Monday, called for a review of security strategies to curb insecurity in Borno, Plateau, Katsina, and Edo States.
The PDP Governors’ Forum, made the call while speaking with journalists after the meeting held in Ibadan.
The meeting was held at the conference room of the Governor’s Office, Agodi, Ibadan.
In attendance at the gala night were the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed; Ahmad Fintiri of Adamawa State, Dr Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Senator Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, Barrister Caleb Mutgwang of Plateau State, Dr Agbu Kefas of Taraba State and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State.
Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State was represented by Deputy Governor Senator Akon Eyakenyi and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State was represented by his Deputy, Monday Onyeme.
Delivering the resolution passed at the end of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum closed-doors meeting, the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed, who is also the Governor of Bauchi State.
Mohammed, who read the speech on behalf of the governors, said the Forum finds the worsening security situation, as evidenced in parts of the country, especially Borno, Plateau, Katsina, and Edo States.
The forum calls for review and reordering of priorities and strategies, including adopting a bottom-up template that guarantees the sub-nationals constitute an effective line of defense against security breaches.
“While raising the concerns above, we condemn the recent attacks in Plateau State, and commiserate with the government and people of the state especially those who lost property during this unfortunate mishap.”
