• Okpebholo commits to more devt as NMA tasks governor on good governance
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Vice Chairman, South-South, Dan Orbih, yesterday, accused former Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, of allegedly destroying the party with support from some disgruntled members in Edo State.
Orbih noted that he was instrumental to Obaseki’s emergence as governor during his re-election in 2020 when Orbih was the state PDP chairman who championed the former governor’s campaign across the 192 wards of the state.
Orbih made the remarks during the official opening of a new state Secretariat he personally donated to Edo State chapter of the party, saying that the modest contribution to the party is an effort to rebuild the PDP in the state and in the South-South.
He added that the state chapter of the party lacks a functional secretariat for the discharge of its duties, decrying the destruction done to the PDP by Obaseki and his cronies under the previous government.
He lamented that the party under his watch as the National Vice Chairman, South-South, cannot be homeless; hence, the donation of the secretariat to Ede PDP.
The South-South National Vice Chairman stated that Obaseki killed and buried the PDP in Edo, and must account for the huge amount of money he pledged to deliver for many projects, including the GeleGele Seaport, which he, hitherto, noted has not been achieved.
He called on genuine members of the party to be united in the struggle to rejig the party, noting that the PDP is a formidable party despite its internal problems.
He equally dismissed the claims that the ex-governor of Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, was responsible for the PDP’s woes. Orbih said that the PDP in Edo State is determined to collaborate and work with only genuine and loyal party members who have the interest of the party at heart.
He alleged that the Edo PDP Caretaker Committee, comprising the PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, the Acting Secretary and Publicity Secretary, Henry Duke Tenebe and Chris Nehikhare, respectively, were incapable of delivering the party to victory, as they actively played a role with Obaseki in destroying the party in Edo.
MEANWHILE, the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, yesterday, assured Edo people of the determination of his administration to continue to work and ensure more developmental strides.
The governor gave the assurance during a victory dinner held at the New Festival Hall of the Government House, Benin City, on Monday night, to celebrate his victory at the election petition tribunal.
Okpebholo, who also thanked President Bola Tinubu, added that with the affirmation of his victory by the tribunal, Edo people will see more positive developments, as his administration has adopted the practical governance style.
In addition, the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Edo State branch, has hailed Okpebholo on his triumph at the tribunal.
In a statement signed by the Edo NMA chairman, Dr. Eustace Oseghale, the NMA congratulated Governor Okpebholo, saying: “We are confident that this victory will bolster his efforts to drive development in Edo State. We reaffirm our commitment to a collaborative partnership aimed at enhancing healthcare services in the state.”
The NMA urged the governor to deliver on his campaign promises to the people and wished him a successful tenure.
