Opposition lawmakers back Anyanwu’s sack, urge Wike’s expulsion

The coalition of opposition lawmakers has applauded the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for removing Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary and appointing Hon. Setonji Koshoedo as the acting National Secretary.

In a statement issued on Monday by the group’s spokesperson, Hon. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, the lawmakers described the NWC’s action as a decisive step that ends what they called the “flagrant imposition” of Anyanwu, despite a court ruling removing him from office.

Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato in the House of Representatives and is a PDP leader in Imo State, also called for the immediate expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Senator Anyanwu from the party.

“We received with excitement the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which approved the nomination of Arch. Setonji Koshoedo as the new National Secretary of the party, thereby officially sacking Anyanwu, who had been sacked by the court,” Ugochinyere said.

He congratulated the PDP leadership for what he described as “a bold decision” to replace Anyanwu with Koshoedo, who until now served as the Deputy National Secretary.

Ugochinyere added that Koshoedo will serve in acting capacity pending the Southeast zone’s nomination of Rt. Hon. Udo Okoye as the substantive National Secretary.

“This bold decision today is one of the urgently needed moves we have been agitating for to help set the PDP on the recovery path,” he said.

He further urged the NWC to adopt the recommendations of the Chief Tom Ikimi-led disciplinary committee, which reportedly proposed sanctions for party members accused of working against its interest.

“The NWC must also be bold enough to officially adopt the Ikimi disciplinary report and expel the traitors who have vowed to kill the party because of their greedy politics backed by Abuja plots of land bazaar,” he stated.

Ugochinyere praised the NWC for taking steps to restore internal democracy and urged the party’s leadership to go further by severing ties with individuals he claimed were working to destroy the PDP from within.

“We salute the NWC and urge them to do more to earn back the trust of Nigerians — that the dark days of Anyanwu and his paymasters, notably Nyesom Wike, are destroyed. Their expulsion is not negotiable,” he said.
