Nollywood actress Lizzy Anjorin has spoken out following the buzz surrounding gospel singer Tope Alabi’s decision not to attend her surprise birthday celebration.
According to reports, fans of Anjorin had arranged for Tope Alabi to make a special appearance at the event, even paying a substantial amount for her performance. However, once the singer learned who the celebrant was, she reportedly declined to take part in the celebration.
Addressing the incident during a live session, Anjorin clarified that she had no knowledge of the plan to invite Tope Alabi and expressed surprise that such a large sum was spent just to bring in a celebrity for the occasion. She questioned whether the money could have been better used to help people in dire need, such as those facing steep medical bills.
Despite the controversy, the actress remained upbeat, expressing gratitude for her life and health. She also extended well wishes to Tope Alabi and stated that she didn’t feel her presence was necessary for the event to be meaningful.
“I am a Muslim and I didn’t expect my fans to invite a gospel singer to my birthday. They should have invited an Islamic singer who is my fan,” she said.
“I can never use my money to call Aunty Tope Alabi to sing for me. The best of her songs is in her album and I can easily play it in my house.
“The millions my fans sent to her could have been given to beggars on the street or people that need their hospital bills to be paid.”
“A pregnant woman d!ed recently because she couldn’t afford 500k for hospital bills. I don’t do copy copy like other people. I already warned my fans to stop wasting money.”
Despite the drama, Lizzy expressed gratitude for life and good health on her birthday.
“I thank God I am alive and healthy for my birthday. I don’t know why she refused to come down from the car but the reason is best known to her. I hope my fans have learned their lessons from this. Aunty Tope, I love you but I don’t need you.”
