The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has officially announced the date for the upcoming local government elections.
The commission, in a statement, declared that elections for chairmen and councilors across the 20 local government Areas (LGAs), 37 local council development Areas (LCDAs), and 376 wards of Lagos State will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
This announcement, made according to Section 21(I) of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission Law 2008 (as amended), marks the official commencement of the electoral process as the tenure of the current local government administration draws to a close.
The Chairman of LASIEC, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile, assured all registered political parties of a level playing field and pledged the commission’s commitment to conducting a free, fair, inclusive, and credible election that meets international standards.
She urged political parties and aspirants to strictly adhere to the announced timetable.
LASIEC spokesperson, Ojo Tope Stephen, said registered political parties are required to visit the LASIEC Headquarters to obtain nomination and other relevant forms for their candidates.
“The Notice includes a meeting with Political Parties on Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Publication of Election Guidelines on Wednesday, April 17, 2025. Commencement of Campaigns and Rallies in Friday, April 18, 2025,” Ojo said.
“End of Campaigns and Rallies on Wednesday, July 9, 2025. Closing Date for Submission of Nomination Forms (substituted and only candidate) on Wednesday, June 18 to Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Local Government Elections on Saturday, July 12, 2025, and Run-off/Re-run Election if any on Saturday, July 19, 2025.”
