The Rivers State Government led by Sole Administrator Ibok-ete Ibas has debunked a viral social media statement claiming that suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, were summoned to the Government House for an official meeting.
The widely circulated notice alleged that Fubara had been invited to appear on Friday, April 18, 2025, to defend appointments made during his tenure. The document also claimed he was expected to provide documents and justification for his actions in office and state reasons for seeking reinstatement.
Reacting, the Rivers State Government issued an official disclaimer, categorically denying the authenticity of the announcement.
“The Rivers State Government has become aware of fraudulent announcements circulating on social media, falsely attributed to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG),” the statement read.
“These malicious fabrications are designed to mislead the public, create panic, and disrupt the peace in Rivers State.”
The government emphasized that no such invitation was issued and warned the public to disregard the falsehood.
“One such fake announcement falsely claims that His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, and the Deputy Governor, Prof. Mrs. Ngozi Nma Odu, were summoned to a meeting at the Government House. The Rivers State Government categorically states that this announcement is FAKE and did not originate from any official source.”
The Permanent Secretary of the Special Services Bureau, Sir Dede Sampson Friday, who signed the statement, urged residents to rely solely on verified communication platforms for government information.
