Two suspected involved in the kidnapping of a Nigerian Navy (NN) personnel, Lt. Cynthia Akor in Abuja have been arrested.
The suspects – Buhari Adamu and Samaila Usman – were arrested alongside their accomplice, Mu’Awiya Belo by operatives of the Nigerian Navy around the hills at Masaka in Nasarawa State.
Recall that Akor, her sister and another victim were kidnapped in the Mpape area of Abuja on March 21.
The kidnappers were said to have invaded Maman Vatsa Estate Gate where they blocked the Mpape Road, and opened fire on moving vehicles and passersby.
On March 23, the victims were freed and recoveries were made following an operation by security operatives in the Karu area of Abuja.
However, following investigations into the incident, two of the suspected kidnappers were arrested by officials of the Nigerian Navy and handed over to the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Police.
Items like mobile phones, ATM cards from several banks, a wristwatch and a motorcycle were recovered from the suspects.
According to Commodore Oluseyi Oladipo, the commander of the unit, the suspects were apprehended following collaborative efforts of security agencies within the FCT.
The suspects have since confessed to their involvement in kidnapping, cattle rustling and other vices.
“Accordingly, the suspects and the related exhibits have been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force FCT Command for further investigation and prosecution.
“Naval Unit Abuja remains committed to actualising the vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral EI Ogalla, which is a highly motivated Naval Force capable of shaping security outcomes in Nigeria’s maritime domain, including land-based engagements,” he stated.
