Nigerian activist Just Adetoun has explained why she chose not to blur the face of the young girl featured in the video she posted, which criticized the mother for bringing her daughter to sweep at 4 a.m.
A few weeks ago, Adetoun sparked a viral debate after she berated the woman for involving her child in the early-morning sweeping job. While the video faced significant backlash, it also garnered empathy, especially from philanthropist and chess master Tunde Onakoya, who offered the young girl a scholarship.
In a recent interview with Timi Agbaje, Adetoun clarified her decision, stating that blurring the girl’s face would have reduced the video’s impact. She explained that if she had blurred the face, the video wouldn’t have drawn the attention it did, and consequently, the little girl might not have received the help she now has.

“If I had blurred that girl’s face, the reactions that came to that post wouldn’t have come, the people that donated to her wouldn’t have donated and I’m never going to delete that video off my page, it’s never coming down ever…”
