Shimite Love
Nigerian human rights activist, Comrade Israel Joe, has recounted how the late Senior Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Trade and Export, Shimite Love, called him a year ago to discuss a difficult issue, and she sounded exhausted on the phone.
He expressed regret about not finding time to discuss the issue she wanted to see him for because he was preoccupied with other matters.
Recall that Shimite passed away on Monday, April 21, 2025.
It was gathered that Shimite’s maid called her elder brother, saying that her husband allegedly had locked her in the house all day.
Her brother rushed over and found her inside the house with foam coming out of her mouth.
He took her to the hospital, but she was declared d3ad on arrival.
According to Comrade Joe, he called Shimite one particular night, but she said she would see him in person to discuss an issue.
“Shimite Bello, I haven’t been able to find the courage to pen this down but just have to let it out. I have been holding myself since the tragic news of your dęąth,” he wrote.
”We shared the same stage of “Reinventing the Youth”. A programme hosted by the Founder of “Not too young to Lead” Amb Elvis Akpobi Majority in the year 2022 at Beeland Hotels, Udu, Delta State.
She listened to my presentation and exchanged contact with me. She had later called that she is one of my followers on Facebook and had always looked forward in seeing me. She expressed her gratitude for my good works.
This lady hadn’t failed to check up on me, especially during my turbulent seasons. A little above one year ago, she called me and said, “comrade I really want to relate an issue to you but it is difficult to say”.
I enquired what the issue would have been because she sounded so exhaustive on the phone. I told her I would get back to her but I am pained and apologised for my busy schedules.
She called again last year and we had a protracted discussion. I told her that my court case with the Inspector General of Police at the Federal High Court, Warri, was the next day and I was on my way to see my lawyer Barr. Kunle Edun (SAN).
I made an attempt to call her a particular night but she said she would see me in person when she comes to Warri and her conversation with me would be a one on one not really on a call. I had wished I listened to her and hear her out. A lot of women are going through a lot from their politicians and pastors’ husbands.
I would never again take such calls with levity and must create time to respond to such issues. My inbox is full of such complaints. I have always been careful dealing with married women and their issues because, most times, we blamed it on the “sharp mouth” of wömęn, but most often, I realised we need to listen to them.
