The ranks of the opposition political parties dwindled in Enugu State, as the 2023 governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Chijioke Edeoga, rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Edeoga left the PDP after the party’s primary election and defected to the LP, where he put up a strong fight against the then-candidate of the PDP and now Governor Peter Mbah.
At a ceremony held at the State Office of the PDP in Enugu, Edeoga formally announced his return to the PDP, saying it would cause a paradigm shift in the way politics is played in the state.
Addressing party faithful, Edeoga stated that he is happy to return to the PDP, noting that his driving force in politics is the passion to serve, especially since the governor is doing well.
Paying glowing tributes to the governor, he said: “I want to state that I am happy to be here. I want to thank, in a very special way, the governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah. I appreciate that what has happened today could not even begin to be conceived without his active involvement.
“By this gesture, he has demonstrated an elevated mental state that is worthy of appreciation, and worthy of being supported or rewarded to the extent that is humanly possible.”
Explaining that it was not an occasion for speech-making, Edeoga observed that it was filled with emotions, with some of his supporters delighted about the move and others sad about it. He stated that he decided to dedicate himself again to the PDP to ensure that the party becomes a winning machine in Enugu State.
