In a video shared on Tuesday, the veteran singer used a spirited musical rendition—featuring a mix of Yoruba, English, and Pidgin—to send a clear message refuting the claims.
“Hello, my name is Professor Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi. Satan, you don lose o, Satan, you don lose o, you don pafuka. Na lie lie you dey talk, you don pafuka,” he sang joyfully.
Obey directly addressed the false news, saying, “The story circulating that I’ve passed away is completely untrue. I am alive and well. That is not the story Jesus wrote about me.”
The rumour began trending on Monday, sparking panic among fans and tributes on social media. However, his personal assistant, Tope Olukole, quickly cleared the air during a live interview on TVC.
“Ebenezer Obey is very much alive. He even recently attended a family event to celebrate his second child’s spouse’s 50th birthday,” Olukole shared, urging the public to disregard the unfounded rumours.
The fake news surfaced just weeks after the music icon marked his 83rd birthday, making the false report all the more unsettling for his followers.
