Commuters Abducted As Gunmen Strike In Kwara

Some daredevil gunmen have reportedly kidnapped passengers from two vehicles along Eleyin village in the Isanlu-Isin area of Isin Local Government, Kwara State.

The attack, which occurred around 5:45 pm on Friday, April 27, comes just days after a similar kidnapping incident near Obbo-Aiyegunle in Ekiti Local Government Area, where seven travellers en route to Offa from Abuja were abducted.

According to eyewitness accounts, the armed attackers blocked the highway, intercepted two private vehicles, a Honda and a Toyota, and forcefully led the occupants into a nearby forest. As of the time of reporting, the whereabouts of the victims remained unknown.

The Kwara State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident on Saturday evening. In the statement, she disclosed that two victims, identified as Ganiyu Ajayi and Kolawole Adeyemi, had been rescued through a coordinated operation involving the military and local vigilantes.

Efforts to locate and rescue the remaining abducted individuals are ongoing, with security forces intensifying search operations. Adetoun urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, and to support law enforcement by providing timely and credible information.

She further stated that security measures in the area had been strengthened, highlighting aggressive bush combing, strategic patrols, and intelligence-led operations as part of the command’s response to prevent further attacks.

She assured the public that the police remain committed to safeguarding lives and property across Kwara State.
