There was panic among residents of Morai town in Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State following a late-night attack on Monday by armed assailants suspected to be bandits.
The deadly raid claimed the lives of a former sole administrator of the local government, Saminu Morai, and three other individuals.
Multiple sources from the community confirmed the attack, which has left several residents feared abducted and many others traumatized.
“Bandit attack Morai town in Talata Mafara local government of Zamfara state killed former Talata Mafara local government sole administrator and 3 others. Many people were kidnapped,” a resident said.
“The name of the administrator is Saminu Morai. The attack happened last night,” the resident added, noting that the attackers stormed the area unexpectedly and left a trail of devastation.
Following the incident, the Emir of Talata Mafara and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the area were said to have attended the burial of the deceased, which took place earlier on Tuesday in accordance with Islamic rites.
“And Emir of Talata Mafara together with DPO of Talata Mafara attended the funeral,” the source confirmed.
The Zamfara State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement concerning the incident. Additionally, precise details on the number of abductees and the identities of the perpetrators remain unclear.
