Baka Not Nice Says Drake Stopped Him From Responding to Kendrick Lamar

OVO artist Baka Not Nice says he was ready to head to the studio to respond to Kendrick Lamar after the rapper mentioned him in his hit song, “Not Like Us.”

“My first initial thing was to respond quickly, efficiently, and directly. It started brewing in me because where I come from, you can’t just call out a man and not have paperwork to back it up. It’s ludicrous,” he said in a sitdown with Hot Freestyle.

“And then to see a whole nation behind it and celebrating it like it’s a true story is unbelievable. Everybody has to understand: I have a kid, Drake has a kid, so to be making accusations like that are ridiculous and out of this world,” he continued.

“I was building up a lot of anger, but then I got a call. It was like God said something to him. The Boy said, ‘Yo, I know what you’re feeling, I know how you get down, but I’m just letting you know, don’t listen to the noise ’cause it’s noise.’”

Baka Not Nice, who signed to OVO in 2017, was arrested on charges including human trafficking, assault, and making death threats, accused of forcing a 22-year-old woman into prostitution.

The woman, reportedly his on-and-off girlfriend, alleged that an altercation occurred when she found him passed out with food burning in the oven. When she confronted him, the rapper allegedly pushed her to the ground. In 2015, he pleaded guilty to the assault charge and received a six-month sentence.

The more severe charges of human trafficking were dropped after the woman declined to testify.
