Adetoun Apologizes After Calling Out a Woman Over Sweeping Job, Visits Struggling Family

Controversial activist Just Adetoun has tendered an apology following widespread criticism after she called out a woman who came to a compound in Ikoyi to sweep with her daughter.

She had slammed the woman in a video that went viral for taking her child to sweep as early as 4 a.m.

She claimed the incident was inappropriate and termed it child labour.

However, she was slammed online for disrespecting the woman and her child. Following that, she visited the woman and found out that she comes from Oworo to Ikoyi for the job.

The activist, moved by the woman’s struggles, offered to place her on a monthly salary in addition to the N19,500 she earns from her sweeping job.

Sharing the update on Instagram, she wrote:

“APOLOGIES ON HOW YOU ALL SAW THE VIDEO. I knew something was wrong, but the right of the child was most important. She comes all the way from inside Oworo to Ikoyi just for 19,500 monthly 😢😢😢😢😢. MY INTENTION WAS CLEAR IN MY CAPTION.”

Her gesture has sparked fresh conversations online, with some commending her for taking responsibility and offering help, while others blasted her for the damage control and crocodile tears.

A social media user, @PidginGuyHQ reacted, “She was expecting people to support her dirty behavior. You don’t just see someone sweeping and start shouting at the mother for no reason. She could have corrected her without a camera and without shouting.”

Another user, @JustSeyi noted, “Zero need for the original video; the fake tears are even worse.”
