The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 elections, Adewole Adebayo, has said that Nigerians are ready to support a coalition of people with a clear ideology, not a coalition of politicians, in the 2027 election.
Adebayo, who spoke in an interview, also stated that through his anti-people policies and programmes, President Bola Tinubu has created room for the easy defeat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the SDP in 2027.
He said: “The people who are working hard for the SDP to come to power are members of the APC-led government because they have turned the furnace fire on the back of the Nigerian people.
“They are making Nigerians suffer to get paid and when they get the pay, it cannot buy them food. They are making life tough and making decisions that do not favour the people. They are spending trillions on projects that are invisible.
“We have a N55 trillion budget that doesn’t trickle down to the people. So, Tinubu is working hard for us to defeat him and come to power. He is working hard to see that he will be the last APC president. So, they are working hard in that regard because they are not taking care of the people.”
When reminded that his party lacks the structure to defeat a formidable force like President Tinubu and his party, He said that the SDP would rely on the people to win the election, refuting the claim that his party lacks the structure to defeat a formidable force like Tinubu and his party, APC.
“We don’t have any structure based on criminality, bribery or diversion of public funds but we rely on the structure of the people.” Adebayo, who agreed that it would be very difficult to defeat Tinubu without a credible coalition, said that it is not impossible.
He also dispelled the rumour that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, will be joining the SDP, saying until he joins the party, he wouldn’t say he would join or not.
He, however, advised those who want to join the SDP to follow the rules of the party.
