Following the gale of defection rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Osun, Dr Tosin Odeyemi, on Thursday said more chieftains of the party will decamp ahead of the 2026 governorship poll in the state.
Odeyemi also hinted that imminent political realignments ahead of the exercise may also give room for some major stakeholders and members of the ruling party to work against the re-election of the state governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
He alleged that some of the appointees of the state governor were not giving him (Adeleke) truthful information about the socioeconomic realities capable of determining the fate of the PDP during next year’s poll.
Odeyemi’s position came hours after the lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, Honourable Oluwole Oke, resigned his membership of the PDP, while the Delta State governor, Mr Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, also dumped the opposition party.
He contended that people that love the progress of Osun in the PDP will not sit back and fold their arms over what he termed the appalling level of governance in the state.
“It should be partially believed that the intention of Governor Ademola Adeleke in aspiring to lead Osun was good but he is being surrounded by some individuals interested in power rather than good governance for all. They find it difficult to look up to him and advise him rightly,” he said in a statement.
“I wish the PDP knew what is about to befall them in Osun. Those that will leave the party openly are few compared to those that will stay to destabilize the party in the state.”
However, the director of media and publicity of the PDP in Osun, Hezekiah Oladele Bamiji, had recently, in a statement, dismissed Odeyemi’s claims regarding governance in the state and electoral chances of Adeleke during the forthcoming governorship poll.
He contended that the NNPP chairman does not have the pedigree to assess the PDP-led government, saying “he lacks the requisite experience in leading people at the governance level all his life.
“All Odeyemi is known for in the state has been scavenging around through one mushroom political platform or another, where he tries to market his stained personality to some other desperate political suitors through some crumbs-seeking, careless statements.
“He should know that governance is not all about the deceitful carriage of a convoluted sadness, where citizens are clandestinely shortchanged with the mind of a newly recruited soldier while doing nothing in actual fact.”
