Nigerian singer Folarin Falana better known as Falz has spoken out following the declaration of state of emergency in Rivers State.
Kemi Filani reported on Tuesday that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had declared a state of emergency in Rivers state. He said he has taken the decision after evaluating the political crisis in the state, and suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy for six months.
Tinubu also suspended all elected members of the House of Assembly of Rivers State and nominated Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as Administrator to take charge of the affairs of the state.
Reacting to the news via his Twitter page, Falz stated that there is absolutely no law that allows a president to spend a Governor. He noted how a Governor is elected into office and may only be removed by impeachment.
The singer further questioned if Rivers State is in a wa hence the state of emergency or if there is an actual breakdown of public order or a threat to the existence of the Federation.
“Rivers State, there is ABSOLUTELY NO LAW that allows a president to SUSPEND a governor. A Governor is elected into office and may only be removed by impeachment.
Also, is Rivers state at war? Is there “actual breakdown of public order”? Is there a threat to the existence of the federation?”.
Last year, during the protest against economic hardship, Falz had appealed to the government to not turn a deaf ear to the pleas of the masses, as it wouldn’t end well for them.
During the four years remembrance of the fallen protesters at Endsars protest, Falz honored them as he promised to never forget them. He crowned them the real heroes and bravest Nigerians that ever liveth as he vowed to never forget their ultimate sacrifice.
Falz was one of the forerunners of the EndSars protest in 2020, even going as far as leading the protest on more than one occasion, and sharing food for protesters. The singer, led a heavy campaign, vying for the attention of the government to dissolve SARS as a body.
Other celebrities like Davido, Wizkid, Tacha, and Mr Macaroni also spearheaded the protest both online and physically.
