Shehu Sani, a former lawmaker of the Nigerian Senate has explained why it appears that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan who was suspended by the Red Chamber stood alone.
Sani also mentioned that it would be impossible for Senator Ireti Kingibe, another female lawmaker in the Senate, to throw her weight behind Akpoti-Uduaghan during the events that led to the later’s suspension by the leadership of the Upper Chamber.
In a post made on X, Sani urged Nigerians to desist from attacking Ireti for not showing up for Natasha as expected by many.
He said Ireti already has a lot on her plate and it would be unwise for her to add more problems to herself.
Recall that the Federal Capital Territory Senator had been in a long battle with the minister, Nyesom Wike.
Ireti had accused the minister of sidelining her in affairs of the FCT while carrying her predecessor along.
However, analysing the situation, Sani wrote, “Some people are attacking Senator Ireti for not standing up to fight in the Senate. She is already being brutally fought at home by the FCT Minister.
“If she now picks another battle in the Senate, she will be at war both front and back. What will be left of her in that situation? You have to put yourself in her shoes to understand her predicament.
“There are moments in life you have to choose the battles to fight and the ones to defer. If Ireti fights on both sides, she will be loved by the social media but her constituents will revolt against her that, “We didn’t send you to fight,we send you to bring something to us and help us”.
“Politics is intriguing,” he added.
