The members of the Nigerian Senate have moved into a closed-door session to discuss the controversial issues surrounding the State of Emergency declared in Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on the floor of the Red Chamber on Thursday, March 20, the Senate Majority Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele raised a motion for the lawmakers to move into a closed session.
Bamidele said, “Mr President and distinguished colleagues, let me say that I move, pursuant to order 135 of our rules, that the Senate now go into a closed session, prelude to the motion that I have in the Order Paper. Thank you, Sir.”
Having listened to the motion by Bamidele, the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, called on the Minority leader for his submissions.
To this, the Minority Leader announced his support for the motion for the Senate members to go into a closed session to discuss issues on the Order Paper.
Further speaking, Akpabio called for a voice vote for the motion for the Senate to move into a closed session. This was supported by members of the Senate.
