A judge has ordered Damon Dash, co-founder of Roc-A-Fella Records, to pay $4 million in a defamation lawsuit filed by filmmaker Josh Webber.
Webber filed the lawsuit following Dash’s appearance on the “Earn Your Leisure” podcast in March 2024. During the event, Dash made defamatory remarks about Webber and his attorney, Chris Brown, accusing them of theft.
“I had a judgment. And I knew this d–khead Chris Brown and Josh Webber and Muddy Waters. Chris Brown the lawyer. I went through four trials with the same lawyer. What I lost was defamation because these guys trigger me and steal my s–t. You think there is freedom of speech? It’s really not,” Dash said at the time.
Webber says the comments, which went viral online, led to him losing a $4 million directing and producing opportunity for a film starring Billy Bob Thornton.
Dash reportedly failed to comply with court orders, missed compulsory mediation sessions, and neglected to provide required pre-trial documents, which led to the judge ruling against Dash, citing his repeated non-compliance.
