Gunmen kill Lagos APC council chairmanship aspirant

Some yet-to-be-identified gunmen have killed Oluwatosin Onamade, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairmanship aspirant in Lagos State.

Onamade, who was vying for the chairmanship position for Ijede Local Council Development Area was killed in the Ijede, Ikorodu on Saturday night.

Confirming the incident, his brother, Oluwafemi said Onamade was macheted and shot by the assailants who had been trailing him for some time.

According to Femi, the gunmen, all dressed in black, had their faces covered during the attack on Onamade.

Having survived a similar attack, Femi said the gunmen had first shot at Onamade but proceeded to use a machete on his head and face when the bullets did not penetrate his body.

He said, “It happened around 9 pm on Saturday. There were two gunmen. They were wearing black outfits and no one could recognise them.

“His aide said he could not wait when he heard gunshots. They shot at him and macheted him in front of his house. It happened at his house in Ijede, Oluwatosin Onamade Street. The street is named after him.

“They shot him. When the bullets did not penetrate in time, they used machetes on his head and face,” he said.

Speaking further, he said his brother was killed by his opponents who knew that he would win the chairmanship position ahead of them.

He also noted that a similar attack has been launched against his late brother in 2021.

“An attack had been made in 2021 and some of the culprits are still in prison but judgment has not been made yet,” Femi said.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin said an investigation has been launched into the matter.

Hundeyin said, “Investigation has commenced into the incident.”
