The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional personnel and resources to Rivers State. This move is aimed at bolstering security, protecting lives and property, and securing critical infrastructure in the state.
According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the deployed operatives will collaborate with the Armed Forces and other security agencies to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the South-South state.
Egbetokun reassures citizens that while individuals have the right to seek legal redress, any unlawful gatherings, protests, or activities that threaten public peace will be met with the full force of the law.The Nigeria Police Force emphasizes that aggrieved individuals retain the right to seek legal redress through the appropriate judicial channels.
However, any attempt to exploit the situation through unlawful gatherings, protests, or activities to disrupt public peace will be met with the full force of the law.The Force remains committed to ensuring peace and stability and urges residents to remain law-abiding and go about their daily activities without fear.
This development comes after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, as well as members of the State House of Assembly for six months. Vice Admiral Ibok-ete Ibas (retd) has been appointed as the Sole Administrator for the state.
