The Southern Charm star was pulling away from the people he cared about the most, including his best friend, but through hard work and honesty, he managed to not only improve his health and get sober, but also rebuild relationships that were very important to him.
Craig Conover Spoke Candidly About His Struggles
During Southern Charm‘s March 6 episode, Craig bared his soul, not only to his fans but to his best friend Austen Kroll, and in doing that, he didn’t only have a weight lifted off his chest, but also managed to rebuild a relationship that meant a lot to him.
Austen didn’t know what Craig was going through, and the friends were pulling away from each other, but Craig’s recent act of opening his heart brought them back together.
“He basically came back to me with, ‘I have an addiction problem,’ and that stopped me in my tracks,” Austen shared.
Apparently, what prompted Craig’s decision to open up was that Austen believed he was showing off his new sober lifestyle for attention and making light of it. Craig didn’t want his friend to think that, so he decided to tell him the shocking truth.
“He thought I was just doing it to look better. And once I realized that I opened up to him because I finally understood it. I was like, ‘No, I’m an alcoholic. Or pretty much.’ I still don’t like saying that word because I don’t understand it that much. But I’m like, ‘I drink too much.'”

Craig Conover said his split with Paige took him by surprise and Amanda Batula isn’t happy about it.
While it was a difficult conversation to have, Craig is ultimately glad it happened, because it made them both realize they wanted to rekindle their friendship.
“Austen, I want to work on being best friends again and getting to that trust level and I want you to know I really couldn’t tell you about this stuff.”
Austen agreed immediately, and they are both committed to rebuilding their relationship.
“I think he’s in a better place in his life and we’re working on our new normal.”
Paige DeSorbo Helped Craig Through The Process
While he couldn’t bring himself to talk about his addiction with Austen, he confided in his then-girlfriend, Paige DeSorbo, and he will forever be grateful for all her support and help.
“She was right with me this entire time,” Craig revealed. “I’m so lucky that she chose to be like, ‘I see someone there.’ She helped me, like, beat this demon.”
His relationship with Paige was one of the reasons he wanted to get sober. He realized the way he was using alcohol wasn’t sustainable in any way.

Craig Conover admitted that he and Paige DeSorbo were “planning our future” together before their breakup.
“When I drank, I drank too much, and I couldn’t control that. And for the sake of my relationship and my life and my business, I made a decision to try to get better and try to change my relationship with alcohol.”
Even if his relationship with Paige didn’t work out in the end, she obviously changed Craig’s life for the better, and he will always be glad for that.
