An Abuja-based legal practitioner, Johnmary Jideobi has instituted a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Abuja, challenging the appointment of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd) as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State.
The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/572/2025, was filed on Tuesday, March 25.
The lawyer asked the court to invalidate Tinubu’s state of emergency declared in Rivers.
He also urged the court to declare Ibas’ appointment unconstitutional and void.
Jideobi’s legal action seeks to invalidate all actions and decisions taken by Ibas in his capacity as Sole Administrator.
According to him, such an appointment has no constitutional backing and should be nullified across Nigeria.
The controversy stems from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to appoint Ibas as Sole Administrator following the suspension of Governor Sim Fubara and other officials.
