BREAKING: Jailbreak in Kogi as Inmates Escape from Correctional Center

Twelve inmates have escaped from the Federal Correctional Centre in Kotonkarfe, Kogi State, following an early morning jailbreak on Monday.

Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, confirmed the incident.

He described it as “unfortunate” but assured residents that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, is taking immediate steps to prevent future occurrences.

According to Fanwo, security operatives have already re-arrested one of the escapees, while efforts are ongoing to recapture the others.

“The theory that the inmates escaped through the tower without causing any structural damage raises serious concerns.

“This calls for a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the escape, arrest the fleeing inmates, and identify possible saboteurs within the system,” he stated.

The commissioner also revealed that Governor Usman Ododo has directed security agencies to strengthen measures to prevent further security breaches at correctional facilities in the state.

“We call on the public to report any suspicious individuals in their communities. Anyone found harbouring an escaped inmate will be held accountable,” Fanwo warned.

He, however, urged residents to remain calm and assured them that security agencies are in full control of the situation.

“There is no cause for panic. We encourage citizens to go about their daily activities as normal, knowing that the security of lives and property remains our top priority,” he added.
