Between 1983 and 1995, Star Search was a big deal in America as fans loved seeing real people performing. A successful reality show for many years, Star Search was a precursor to shows like American Idol and America’s Got Talent.
During each episode, pairs of acts would compete against each other with four judges scoring them. The act with the higher score would be proclaimed the Champion, and be asked back to compete against other challengers. Ultimately, the Star Search acts had the potential to win $100,000 for the people involved.
Before Beyoncé became the sensation she is known as today, she competed on and was eliminated from Star Search. Years later, Beyoncé revealed the amazing way she got over her reality show loss quickly.

I felt the pressure from the outside and their eyes watching for me to trip or fail.”
While talking to Jay Leno, Beyoncé stated that she was still a kid when she lost Star Search alongside several of her friends who she competed alongside.
“We were nine years old, and, we lost, and we got three and a half stars.”
From there, Beyoncé explained why it was an emotional roller coaster before and after she and her friends competed on Star Search.
