A former governor of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola, has boasted of taking over the reins of power in the state after the 2026 governorship election.
He maintained that there is no negotiation in his political group’s desire to win the forthcoming poll.
The former governor expressed confidence that any candidate his group presents to contest the election would emerge victorious.
Aregbesola leads Omoluabi Progressives, a political organisation in the state.
The Guardian gathered that over a month after Aregbesola’s group announced its decision to quit the All Progressives Congress (APC), the organisation is yet to disclose the political party with which it would align for the forthcoming election.
Recall that immediately after the group announced its exit from the APC, the party’s leadership swiftly announced Aregbesola’s expulsion.
The APC accused the former Minister of Interior of anti-party activities, insisting that Aregbesola colluded with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Governor Ademola Adeleke, to defeat Gboyega Oyetola, the APC candidate in the 2022 gubernatorial poll in the state.
Abosede Oluwaseun, spokesperson of the group, had said members resolved to quit the APC because of “ostracisation from the party, suspension and expulsion of leaders without fair hearing, and continuous denigration of the structure.”
Oluwaseun disclosed that group members expressed their readiness to join another political party ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election.
Meanwhile, Aregbesola, while speaking recently at a stakeholders’ meeting in Ilesa, said the group’s vision to entrench good governance in Osun is still intact, stating, “Abere, no negotiation.”
In a video seen by our correspondent on Monday, members of the group were seen singing and hailing Aregbesola, expressing confidence in ruling the state from next year.
They said they would soon gather in Abere, the Osun State Government House, to rejoice over their expected electoral victory.
