The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa has said a total of 786 former terrorists fighters are undergoing Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation, and Reintegration (DRR) programme.
Musa said that the programme which is an initiative under the Nigerian Military’s Operation Safe Corridor (OPSC) was established following the mass surrendering of terrorists.
Speaking at the OPSC stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, Musa who was represented by Chief of Defence Policy and Plans, AVM Sayo Olatunde said over 120,000 members of Boko Haram and ISAWP – including their family members have surrendered.
He said, “I must state that your relentless efforts and commitment to ensuring national security are highly appreciated. The successes recorded so far are a testament to your resilience and commitment to duty.
“Despite the successes, we must remember that there is a lot more to be done, hence the importance of this stakeholders’ meeting.
“Consequently, we currently have a total of 789 ex-combatants undergoing a de-radicalisation, rehabilitation, and reintegration programme under the initiative. They are expected to graduate this year,” Musa stated.
He also noted that the military would be strategising on the right approach to ensure that the graduates are properly reintegrated into the society in two batches of 391 clients.
