Peter Obi meets Indonesian vice president, others, seeks governance blueprint for Nigeria

In his ongoing efforts to explore effective governance models, former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi met with top Indonesian leaders to discuss strategies that could drive Nigeria’s development.

During his visit on February 3rd and 4th, Obi engaged with key political figures, including former Indonesian Vice President Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, former Minister Agung Laksono, and Yandri Susanto, the Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions.

In his meeting with Kalla, who served under two different Indonesian presidents, Obi was briefed on how strong leadership and a commitment to focused governance enabled Indonesia’s rapid economic and social transformation.

The former Vice President emphasized that simultaneous development across all sectors was crucial to the country’s success.

Laksono, a former Coordinating Minister of the Economy, provided insights into the governance strategies of past administrations, highlighting the importance of strategic planning and execution in national development.

Obi also met with Yandri Susanto, who explained how Indonesia’s rural development policies have driven progress by investing in education, healthcare, and small businesses.

He detailed how a structured approach to village development has helped bridge gaps between underdeveloped and self-sufficient communities.

Reflecting on his discussions, Obi reiterated the importance of adopting structured, data-driven policies in Nigeria, particularly in rural development, industrialization, and economic diversification.

He asserted that with the right political will and strategic execution, Nigeria could achieve inclusive and sustainable growth similar to Indonesia’s.

“By adopting structured, data-driven policies focused on rural development, industrialization, and diversification, Nigeria can achieve inclusive and sustainable growth.

“With political will and strategic execution, we can unlock our full potential and ensure no region is left behind,” Obi wrote on social media.
