FG Sets April Deadline for Lagos-Badagry Road Completion

Mathew Amaechi

The Federal Government has announced that the ongoing reconstruction of the Lagos-Badagry-Seme border road will be completed by April 2025. Minister of Works David Umahi disclosed this during an inspection tour of the project.

The 24.3-kilometer ECOWAS route, handled by China Geo-Engineering Company (CGC), is expected to bring relief to motorists enduring poor driving conditions along the corridor. Awarded in October 2018 at a contract sum of N63 billion, the project has been divided into two phases, with the first phase now 80% complete.

Umahi expressed confidence in the contractor’s ability to meet the deadline, assuring that the government will provide necessary support. He also revealed that the government has paid N50 billion so far, leaving a balance of N21 billion for completion.

The Lagos-Badagry road is a critical trade route, facilitating trans-regional movement and commerce. Its completion is expected to boost economic activities along the corridor. The project also forms part of the larger ECOWAS road network, linking Nigeria to Abidjan via the Seme border
