The dust is yet to settle on the controversies that trailed the removal of former Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa.
Major opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and other political parties have reportedly initiated groundworks to capitalise on the cracks within the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Obasa was impeached on January 13, 2025, by a majority of lawmakers over alleged misconduct and financial misappropriation, sparking conflicting reactions among members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of the APC in Lagos.
The removed speaker faulted his removal by lawmakers last week Saturday, saying they did not follow due process.
The former speaker also denied the allegations of corruption brought against him by the lawmakers during his removal, describing the alleged financial misappropriations as “impossible.”
Mojisola Lasbat Meranda of Apapa State Constituency 1, the former deputy speaker, was named speaker after Obasa’s removal.
Two GAC members, Senator Anthony Adefuye and Chief Muraina Taiwo, who kicked against Obasa’s removal, were criticised by Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, who labeled their comments as “childish and inconsequential.”
