A fresh attack by bandits in Karaga village, Bassa Ward, in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State has left nine farmers dead.
Daily Trust reports that the farmers were killed when the bandits launched the attack on the homes of residents Wednesday night.
According to the report, six other residents of the community were kidnapped during the attack.
Residents of the community who recounted the ordeal said that the attackers carted away numerous cattle in the Farin-Doki community, also within Shiroro LGA.
“So far, nine bodies have been recovered, but we cannot confirm if there are more casualties. Vigilantes are still searching the bushes for additional remains,” a resident who pleaded anonymity said.
He added that after attacking Karaga, the bandits moved on to Farin-Doki, where they kidnapped six people and rustled some cattle.
A second resident said the bandits in another attack raided Juwu-Farin-Doki in Erena Ward of the LGA.
He, however, noted that there no casualties were recorded in this particular attack.
