Ahead of 2026 governorship poll in Osun, a group within state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday, enlisted the support of President Bola Tinubu and the national chairman of the ruling party, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, for the Osun West Senatorial District to secure the gubernatorial ticket.
The group, identified as Osogbo Progressives Alliance (OPA), contended zoning the APC governorship ticket to West Senatorial zone will address decades marginalisation suffered by the area and aid the electoral victory of the party at the polls.
Addressing journalists after a peaceful rally in Osogbo, the state capital, the coordinator of OPA, Ademola Quadri, underscored the need for APC leadership at the national level to zone its gubernatorial ticket in Osun to the West Senatorial District.
Quadri noted that the appeal had become imperative to address imbalance in the zones that produce the governor in the state and to ensure that APC wins the 2026 governorship election.
He stated, “We want to express our unwavering support for the zoning of APC gubernatorial ticket to Osun West Senatorial District in the spirit of justice, fairness and equity. We are persuaded that it is profoundly unjust for the progressive party to have overlooked Osun West in its gubernatorial considerations since 1999, through 26 years of political evolution to the present day.
“While we do not dismiss the rights of those who wish to contest the election, we believe that enduring peace, equity, fairness, and social harmony within the progressive family should be the ultimate aim of any fair-minded individual in Osogbo.
“Therefore, let it be emphatically declared that our resolve to support the aspiration of Osun West in the 2026 elections is not merely a political manoeuver, but a profound statement of inclusivity, unity, and strategic foresight to secure electoral victory.
“We fervently appeal to President Bola Tinubu, our national party chairman, Dr Abdullah Ganduje, Chief Adebisi Akande, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, the national secretary of the APC, Senator Ajibola Basiru, and other elders of the party to support the aspirations of Osun West in the 2026 governorship election.”
