The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central, Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, has dismissed the Kaduna Elders Forum’s threat to recall him from the National Assembly over allegations of non-performance.
In a statement by the special assistant on media to the lawmaker, Segun Olatunji, Senator Usman described the KEF’s statements as baseless and motivated by political mischief.
Titled “Kaduna Elders’ Forum’s Infantile Outbursts: Empty Barrel Making Most Noise,” the statement accused the group of acting as proxies for certain political interests.
He stated that, this was not the first time the same individuals had made such threats, recalling a similar attempt last year under a different guise.
Senator Usman criticised the forum for engaging in what he termed “childish tantrums” and spreading falsehoods about his record of achievements.
He stated that as chairman of the Senate Committee on Education (Basic and Secondary) and vice chairman of the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Financial Institutions, he is focused on critical national assignments and has no time for frivolous distractions.
He added that his performance over the past 18 months speaks for itself, citing several developmental projects in his constituency.
This, he said, includes, “the construction of 100 smart primary school buildings, scholarships for students, provision of boreholes for potable water, installation of solar lights, entrepreneurial training for farmers, and payment of registration fees for tertiary education students.”
Additionally, the lawmaker said 500 individuals had received N500,000 each as startup capital for businesses, while others had been trained in vocational skills such as fish farming and soap making.
The senator also highlighted his legislative contributions, including sponsoring four bills that have reached the third reading stage and moving motions such as the call for the expedited reconstruction of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressway.
He described the KEF’s recall threat as “laughable, noting that such outbursts were typical of groups seeking attention or working to tarnish his reputation for the benefit of their sponsors.”
Urging his constituents to disregard the forum’s claims, Senator Usman accused the KEF of lacking moral authority and being disconnected from the realities of the people they claim to represent. He reiterated his commitment to the development of Kaduna central, pointing to his ongoing projects and weekly engagements with his constituents as evidence of his dedication.
