In a significant boost to security and economic development, the Kebbe Local Government Council in Sokoto State has successfully facilitated the return of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their communities. This achievement is attributed to the council’s collaborative efforts with security agencies to combat banditry.
According to Council Chairman Alhaji Abubakar Yaro, notable improvements in security have been observed, particularly in the local government headquarters, with reduced cases of banditry and rustling. However, the challenge of informants remains, and efforts are underway to track them down.
In addition to restoring peace, the council has distributed 180,000 bags of fertilizers to irrigation farmers, with each polling unit receiving seven bags. This initiative aims to support the local agrarian economy, which boasts vast lands, fertile irrigation systems, and fadama areas.
Chairman Yaro emphasized that the fertilizers were provided free of charge by the governor and encouraged the community to make optimal use of them. He warned that any attempts to divert the consignment would be addressed by the council chairman.
The fertilizer distribution was facilitated through community stakeholders and was monitored by councillors to ensure transparency and accountability. The sharing formula was agreed upon by stakeholders, including party chairmen, women leaders, and security agencies.
