The National Rescue Movement (NRM), on Monday, announced the suspension of its National Chairman, Isaac Udeh, amid allegations of misconduct, financial impropriety, and breach of the party’s constitution, and appointed Chinedu Obi as the Acting National Chairman.
This decision was disclosed by the Acting National Secretary of NRM, Prince Obidike Okolo, during the party’s first-quarter National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.
Okolo revealed that the emergency meeting, initially scheduled for February 28, was rescheduled to address pressing internal issues affecting the party.
He emphasized that the meeting aimed to resolve internal conflicts and enforce party discipline.
He said: “On Friday, January 17, there was an illegal gathering claiming to be an emergency convention. It was unauthorized, unconstitutional, and violated our party’s constitution.
“The person behind this was our former National Chairman, Isaac Udeh, who unilaterally wrote to INEC about holding a convention without proper authorization. INEC responded, declaring the notice illegal and urging compliance with our constitution.
“This prompted the emergency NEC meeting to address such misconduct. Mr. Udeh had already been suspended last year by his ward for repeated infractions against the constitution and impunity. Despite several invitations to address these allegations, he refused, leading to stagnation within the party.”
He added that the party’s National Management Committee (NMC) had previously passed a vote of no confidence in Udeh, but the NEC meeting was required to formalize the decision.
Okolo reaffirmed the party’s commitment to fairness and due process, ensuring that investigations into Udeh’s actions adhere to the principles of justice.
The NEC meeting also filled key national executive vacancies caused by the loss of officers over the years. The new appointments include: Prince Chinedu Obi, Acting National Chairman; Barr. Seprebofa M. Oyeghe, Acting Deputy National Legal Adviser; Dr. Mustapha Umar Kumshe, Acting National Vice Chairman.
Others are: Magdalena Samuel Gali, Acting National Organizing Secretary; Hon. Musa Salisu Kafisoli, Acting National Auditor; Hassan Aminu Ibrahim, Acting National Secretary; Chief Sir Victor Iwualla, Acting National Welfare Secretary; Omotaiwo Peter Letsuwa, Acting National Publicity Secretary.
