Liam Payne's Psychiatrist Reportedly Raised A Red Flag In September

According to a new report, the psychiatrist treating former One Direction singer Liam Payne reportedly “dropped” him as a patient in September, and recommended he seek a “higher level of care.”

Liam, 31, fell to his death from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16.

Initial reports from Argentina were confusing, but not long after Liam’s fatal fall, an investigation into the circumstances under which he died was launched.

In late October, police conducted a “raid” on the hotel, seizing CCTV footage and other records in an effort to shed light on what precisely happened.

The following month, reports that three individuals had been arrested as part of the investigation into Liam’s death circulated.

One of the three was thought to be Liam’s associate Roger Nores, who adamantly denied “neglecting” the singer, and who insisted that he was heartbroken over Liam’s death.

Liam was laid to rest in November, but the investigation continued.

On December 30, we reported that five people had been arrested in the course of the investigation — three were charged with something akin to manslaughter, and two with “supplying” drugs, namely cocaine, to Liam.

Subsequent reports about Liam’s psychiatrist appear to have emerged as part of the latest development, the five arrests in Argentina.

In the aftermath of Liam’s death, a significant amount of finger pointing occurred, with accusations of responsibility and negligence being cast about.

Liam’s friend Roger accused the hotel of negligence in a legal filing, for instance, whereas Roger was likewise accused of leaving Liam alone in a vulnerable state — which he adamantly denies.

On December 30, TMZ claimed to have obtained a letter attributed to Liam’s psychiatrist, one “filed with the court,” presumably as part of the broader investigation.

In that letter, the unidentified psychiatrist reportedly released Liam from her care “after careful consideration and assessment.”

However, she did not advise Liam to discontinue such treatment, and instead asserted he required a “higher level of care” than she could administer to him.

TMZ paraphrased the letter in question, reporting:

“[The psychiatrist] urged Liam to regularly speak with a therapist to ‘process [his] depression and trauma’ … and emphasized it was vital for the management of these issues.
“The therapist provided a list of doctors and rehab centers she believed could better assist Liam.
“She added … ‘Thank you for your understanding, and I wish you the very best in your continued journey toward mental health and well-being.'”

The outlet seemed to use the words “therapist” and “psychiatrist” interchangeably, and it wasn’t clear whether the woman was a psychiatrist or therapist.

No other context about the letter attributed to Liam Payne’s psychiatrist was provided, and only TMZ seemed to have viewed the purported document — however, it stands to reason the letter was considered relevant to the investigation, with respect to Liam’s state of mind when he traveled to Argentina.
