The president of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has said he does not know if he can use the money raised for a potential political campaign to run again.
This is given the constitutional limit of two presidential terms.
Trump, while addressing Congressional Republicans in Miami, on Monday, said “I’ve raised a lot of money for the next race that I assume I can’t use for myself, but I’m not 100 per cent sure.”
The businessman, who defeated Kamala Harris in last year’s election, added, “I think I’m not allowed to run again, but I’m not sure. Am I, Mike?” referring to Republican House Leader, Mike Johnson.
Trump’s presidency is historic, as he is only the second US president to serve two non-consecutive terms.
The funds raised underscores the 78-year-old’s popularity within the Republican Party and his political influence.
Despite the US Constitution’s 22nd Amendment barring presidents from serving more than two terms, a Republican lawmaker recently introduced a resolution to amend the Constitution to allow Trump to run again.
And Trump has frequently joked about extending his time in office. During a Nevada rally.
He had said: “It will be the greatest honour of my life to serve not once, but twice—or three times or four times.”
